5 Most Common Running Injuries and The Best Tools to Help

    May 26, 2015 3 min read

According to the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, about 70 percent of runners will become injured. Our goal as a company is to help keep you injury free and feeling great! Thankfully, Zensah’s innovative products and use of athletic compression work to prevent common running injuries. We have created a list of these injuries and the Zensah products that target each injury so you can perform without limits.

    1. Shin Splints
Shin splints are a common running injury caused by over training or dramatic changes in training regimens. Runners with shin splints experience lower leg pain below the knee that can make running extremely uncomfortable.

    How Zensah Helps
Zensah’s Calf/Shin Splint Compression Sleeve and Compression Leg Sleeves feature v-shaped chevron ribbing on the front of the sleeve to provide the same relief as kinesiology tape, without having to be “taped up” by a trainer.

    2. Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis, or the inflammation of the ligament connecting the heel bone to the toes, is a major cause of heel pain in running. Runners are prone to repeated strains of this ligament, extending the healing process.

    How Zensah Helps
Zensah’s Compression Ankle/Calf Sleeves and Compression Ankle Support help alleviate pain caused by Plantar Fasciitis with pin-point compression in the ankle, and a cuff that can be folded over for additional compression.

    3. Achilles Tendinitis
The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in your body, and connects the heel to the muscles of the lower leg. Achilles Tendinitis, or inflammation of the Achilles tendon, has several causes, ranging from tight calf muscles to sudden increases in training.

    How Zensah Helps
Zensah’s Calf/Shin Splint Compression Sleeve incorporates micro-ribbing on the back to provide calf support and help treat calf strains. If you are recovering from Achilles Tendinitis, this sleeve is great for muscle stabilization, reducing micro tears and preventing future injuries.

    4. Runner’s Knee
Runner’s Knee, or patella-femoral pain syndrome, is the irritation of the cartilage of the kneecap. Running often irritates the area where the kneecap rests on the thighbone, making it painful to walk downhill or stand after extended periods of sitting. Runner’s Knee is often attributed to poorly conditioned quadriceps and tight hamstrings.

    How Zensah Helps
Zensah’s Compression Knee Sleeve features pin-point compression with raised ribbing to provide targeted support to the patella and knee area. Runners and all athletes use the knee sleeve post activity, because its compression technology helps improve blood circulation for a faster recovery, relieving knee pain.

    5. IT Band Syndrome
The Iliotibial Band, or IT band, attaches to the knee and helps stabilize and move the joint. IT Syndrome results from the IT band rubbing over the outside of the knee, creating pain in the area. Some causes of this syndrome include running downhill, wearing worn-out shoes, and running on a circular track.

    How Zensah Helps
Zensah’s Compression Knee Sleeve utilizes pin-point compression to support the IT band. A silicone grip ensures that the knee sleeve stays in place during activity.
